Some kind of dove(?) family has taken up residence right outside our den window. Our window looks right out into this bougainvillea which grows up and over the driveway trellis, and I think because it's so thorny, the parents thought it would be safe from predators. So we have a great view of the youngsters, and mama and papa taking turns feeding them. Most of the time the chickies just sit and doze, but my daughter swears when she was watching TV they were closely watching it through the window. My daughter took these photos and I think they're so lovely. Here's Pip and Squeak. And here's mama. Or it could be daddy. The kids get very excited at mealtime. What's less exciting are the piles of poop landing in our driveway, thankfully just missing my husband's car. Boy those kids eat a lot.
i like flowers, but the bees scare me away from getting to close they add color to the house though i'll give it that!
Looks like a Mourning Dove to me. You're very lucky to have them nesting right outside your window, poop notwithstanding. Fantastic pictures, too. Your daughter did a great job.
That's it! They make that sad ooh...woo-woo sound. Yesterday the birdies were constantly preening and fluff their wings and hopping around more. Don't think they'll be around much longer.
Nice pictures! That's as close as the birds get to my cats. Just few of my reasons they are indoors is to prevent them from bird hunting, but also to avoid letting them get hurt by cars, feral cats, and cruel people. Ms. Vicky is the prettiest bird hunter you will ever see. I have "retired" her from hunting. Inset picture was when she was six weeks. Her mom looked like the Fancy Feast cat (Chinchilla Persian). We have Mouring Doves around Dallas too.
