Scientists say the Earth is the warmest in at least 400 years, maybe several thousand. So warm that some say Al Gore's stiff personality has thawed out. MSNBC Story CNN Story
Here in Ga we are officially in a drought. It hasn't rained all month. All the grass is dead. Ga has no fresh water lakes which is suitable for a water supply so (back in the 40's I think) they dammed up the Chatahoochee river and created a huge watershed lake called Lake Lanier. To make things worse the U.S. Corps of Engineers, who control its water flow has opened up the drain for the past 2-3 months. They drained more than a million gallons of water each day. Most residences along the bank complained loudly but the Corps insisted they are watching their meters. The complaints continued and the Corps stead fast to their meters. Now we are in a drought, the lake has drained off to dangerously low levels and only now the corps actually went out and measured the lake. We're in big water trouble here, and our governor is filing a class action lawsuit against the Corps. There is talk that the Corps were deliberately mis-reading their meters and ignoring lake levels to satisfy some kind of muscle fish down river in Alabama. Now millions of people don't have enough water. I hope it rains.
Hotter climate = warmer Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico water temperature = more/stronger hurricanes. Now to tie this to the U.S. Corps of Engineers: They assured Louisiana that the levee system would hold up to a Catagory 3 storm, and it didn't. Now they are scrambling to rebuild the levees before this seasons storms. Will they be able to make south Louisiana safe? I have my doubts.
Speaking of {HOT} it has been in the high 90's here for awhile. Like today there were areas that had a Heat-Index of "102 Degrees". Franklin where I live was 96 Degrees today and Heat-Index way above that. Ouch !!!! Say what you will I have the A/C on. It's Hot. Like I opened the door on the HCH II with the windows cracked to let some of the Heat out through the day and it read 102 Degrees Outside the car. HOT. Terry
