Audi won Le Mans in the first Diesel race car, hands down, and broke a distance record with 380 laps.

I am sure one of our wonderful people here will have a good write up or find a story, but I happened to be watching the end of the race and thought I would share.

    Hi Shaun:

___Thanks for the update and way to go Audi! The R-10’s extremely low noise level, fuel efficiency, and extreme range over its SI-ICE competitors is what sets it apart and I can only hope this is a sign of things to come for the future of racing. Expect a Front Page News item in a few minutes in fact!

    ___Good Luck

makes me a little less apprehensive of future diesel technology. Clean, quiet, powerful ... mated with biodeisel, hybrid technology, and LSD (not the 70s kind :p ) ... I can't wait to see what Honda will produce ... They have to have something up their sleeve to get their mileage up while at the same time taking out their highest (mpg) performer.

On another note ... I am not certain, but I think I heard at one point the announcers talking about some of the race teams looking into a/c for the drivers or some had it already? With an electric a/c unit ala HCH II, it would eliminate the problem of over-revving the compressor/power-robbing load on the engine from the drive belt. I do think it is something that should be done for the drivers. I see no reason to punish them for having a fun (but seriously dangerous) job. Might cut down on fatigue and mistakes, and make for much better and safer racing (except for those who watch for the crashes). Certainly beats the charred ankles I remember DW talking about many years ago when he still drove for Western Auto.
