Kia announced it sold 70,107 vehicles within the US in November, up 20.2% over the 58,338 sold in November of 2023. 2024 YTD US sales of 723,185 were up 0.1% over the 722,176 sold through the same period of 2023.


Kia's SUV and EVs experienced significant sales growth, with increases of 38% and 45% respectively compared to November of 2023. Individually, the all-electric EV6, Sportage (combined ICE, HEV and PHEV), and K4/Forte set new November records, up 46.3%, 27.6%, and 11.7%, respectively, over November of 2023 sales.

Honda’s electrification plans are continuing to bear fruit.

Honda and Acura’s combined November US sales totaled 121,419 vehicles, up 14.5% over the 106,035 sold in November of 2023. YTD sales of 1,288,260 were up 8.7% over the 1,184,798 sold through the same period of 2023.

Honda’s November sales of 110,020 were up 15.9% over the 94,925 sold in November of 2023. YTD sales of 1,168,890 were up 11.1% over the 1,051,998 sold through the same period of 2023.

Honda set an all-time monthly sales record for its electrified vehicle lineup with over 38,000 vehicles sold including a new monthly sales record for the Prologue. Honda’s all-electric by itself accounted for 6,823 vehicles sold.

Earlier today, Hyundai reported record-breaking total November sales of 76,008 vehicles, an 8.5% increase over the 70,079 sold in Nov. of 2023. YTD sales of 758,304 were up 4.4% over the 726,031 sold through the same period of 2023.

November 2024 U.S. Sales Highlights

November saw sales of the Santa Fe HEV (+64%), Tucson PHEV (+23%), Tucson HEV (+227%), IONIQ 5 (+110%) set new records. Hybrid sales were up 114%, while total EV sales grew 70%.

Stellantis unveiled its STLA Frame platform, a BEV-native, multi-energy platform engineered for full-size body-on-frame pickup trucks and SUVs.

The STLA platform is designed for large packs and powerful motors with range-extender electric-vehicles (REEV) of up to 690 miles and 500 miles with battery only vehicles, a maximum tow cap of 14k lbs and a payload of 2,700 lbs. Additionally, Stellantis said the platform should supports water fording up to 24 inches.

The newly redesigned, second gen 2025 Porsche Taycan entered the year with some eye-opening results as previously documented below. Namely, Porsche’s top of the line, Turbo GT trim with a peak 1,019 hp and 1092 hp boost for two seconds achieved the fastest lap of any EV ever driven on the Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca, in California this with a time of 1:27.87.

The same Taycan trim set a new EV record on the Nürburgring with a lap time of 7:07.55 AND it was the fastest four-door of any powertrain type.

ExxonMobil and LG Chem just signed signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) for a multiyear agreement for up to 100,000 metric tons of lithium carbonate. The lithium will be supplied from Exxon Mobil’s planned project in the U.S. to LG Chem’s cathode plant in Tennessee, which LG Chem expects to be the largest of its kind in the U.S.

This one crossed my desk this morning and even though it is a lease, it may be worth investigating for some.

Considering the Ioniq 5 SEL is my #1 consideration for an EV purchase right now, a mid-trim SEL in RWD form retails for $47,400 + $1,395 D&H and TTL. Hyundai is currently offering a $7,500 rebate so out the door incl. TTL is going to cost a new owner ~ $45,000 USD. I have read of more than $2k off retail from dealers around the country so maybe $43k out the door?

At this year’s LA Auto Show, Hyundai unveiled the IONIQ 9, an all-new, three-row, all-electric SUV with a Minivan like sized interior space and cutting-edge design inside and out. It follows on the success of Kia’s EV9 which in under a year has been purchased by 17,911 owners here in the U.S. YTD.

The IONIQ 9 is a three-row EV that can accommodate up to seven occupants comfortably. It is yet another EV promoting the brands focus as the leader in electrification while targeting 23 different EV models worldwide by 2030. Honda unveiled the demonstration production line for its own upcoming solid-state batteries, solely developed independently by Honda. The line was constructed on the property of Honda R&D located in Sakura City, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. And here is where it gets really fuzzy? Honda “will determine” the basic specifications of the battery cells, with an aim to begin applying its solid-state batteries to electrified models to be introduced to market in the second half of the 2020s.
