Down to Earth: Driving Slower on the Highway
In light of today's high gas prices, an old idea from the 1970's oil embargo is gaining traction. Just drive slower. Earlier this year we told you about an extreme form of saving gas on city streets called hypermiling. Drivers literally take their foot off the gas pedal and cruise down to a stop light or stop sign. Many also remove excess weight, even seats and roof racks, from their vehicles. You can also hypermile on the highway as well. We rode along with a Madison man who doesn't mind being the slowest driver on the open road. He purposely drives below the speed limit to save on gas.
