Opinions Fly at California Air Resources Board Meeting
The California Air Resources Board is getting an earful from people and agencies outraged by a CARB staff plan to slash ? by two-thirds ? the number of zero-emissions vehicles automakers must sell in the Golden State. Some of those critical parties are board members themselves, and they're urging their colleagues to push for more pollution-free cars. As we told you yesterday, the Air Resources Board staff has proposed cutting ? from 75,000 to as few as 27,500 ? the number of zero-emission vehicles automakers must build between 2012 and 2017. Under the changes, major automakers could put fewer than 2,500 nonpolluting cars on the road in the next four years.
