The Smart Fortwo (ED) electric drive: A zero emissions city car.

Besides the fact it will reduce congestion as seen on a typical NY City weekday, a BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) powered mini can only mean one thing, fun and extremely economical to drive. It is a Smart but it doesn't have an internal combustion engine. A 30 kW/41 bhp electric motor runs at the rear of the Smart Fortwo ED that is powered by a high-performance battery made from environmentally compatible sodium-nickel-chloride. The battery is housed in the under-body allowing improved handling with the Smart Fortwo?s available interior space being unaffected.
