Fix for global warming not so painful?
BANGKOK, Thailand -- Greenhouse gas emissions could be dramatically cut and the worst effects of climate change avoided if policy makers and people act quickly and give up a little over a tenth of a percent of economic growth worldwide each year through 2030, a United Nations climate change panel reported Friday. Using existing technology - solar and hydroelectric power, biofuels, more efficient cars and factories, better building insulation - the world could hold temperature increases to around 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit, low enough to avoid potentially disastrous droughts, severe storms and sea level rise, the report said.
