Diesel Power Returned to the Brickyard with a Vengeance
Lessons learned, turbo diesels can go fast while offering more efficiency. When the Mazda6 SKYACTIV-D Turbo Diesel racecar completed its laps on the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway otherwise known as the Brickyard last week, it was be the first time in six decades that a diesel has competed at one of if not the most famous track in the world. The last time a diesel competed at the speedway was in the 1952 Indianapolis 500, when the Cummins Diesel Special surprised the establishment with technology unknown to most racers at the time.
