Opel?s All-new 1.6L Turbo Diesel. A Cruze Drop In?
Fuel consumption is reduced by up to 10 percent vs. the already efficient 2.0L CDTIs it will replace. Late last week Opel announced its powertrain portfolio was upgraded with an all-new 1.6L I4 turbo diesel. The new slightly downsized engine (from the current 1.7L) will be introduced after the gasoline 1.6L SIDI. Opel says the all-new 1.6L CDTI will replace existing 1.7L and some lower powered versions of the 2.0L CDTI it currently employs. Featuring closed-loop combustion control and an aluminum block, the new 1.6 CDTI ECOTEC is the first diesel from Opel to comply with future Euro 6 emissions requirements. The engine will be available in a variety of power outputs across several carlines.
