109 Years Ago Today -- World?s First Powered Flight
Possibly the most famous aircraft and picture of the same in history. The Wright Brothers ?Flyer? takes to the sky for the very first time covering just 120 ft and lasting only 12 seconds with Orville at the controls. 109 years ago today on a windswept sand dune at North Carolina's Outer Banks, the Wright brothers made the world's first powered flight. While the first ?flight? was just 12 seconds, 3 additional flights had the longest covering 852 feet in 59 seconds for an average speed of 31 mph. And the world was about to change forever.
