Maersk Shipping and the U.S. Navy Collaborate on Algae based Biofuel Initia
Can a ship go the sea on algae power alone? Hmmm? The Maersk Kalmar, rated at 6690 TEU or twenty-foot equivalent unit, an inexact unit of cargo capacity often used to describe the capacity of container ships and container terminals based on the volume of a 20-foot-long intermodal container, was launched on July, 1, 1998 and is currently flying the Netherlands flag. That's the expectation as a partnership involving the United States Navy and a handful of Maersk companies gets underway.
