EU New Tire Labels Explained

The standardized tire label that will be introduced by the European Union in 2012 will inform you on 3 key tire performance attributes: fuel efficiency, wet grip performance and exterior rolling noise. You will find an example of what the label will look like (label example according to EU publication NO1222-2009, format according to Annex II article 1 and 2 of the regulation*). The label design for fuel efficiency and wet grip is similar to existing energy efficiency labels (e.g. household appliances) with A being the highest performing tire in its category and G the currently least performing. The exterior noise is expressed in a value in decibels, accompanied by one, two or three sound waves with one wave being the quietest tire and three waves the noisiest one.
