Smart Fortwo BEV coming to America

Following on the heels of its recent launch in Europe, the Smart Fortwo BEV will hit the American road beginning this fall. The electrically powered Micro has been rolling off the French production line since late last year with initial production volume set for 1,000 vehicles which has since been increased to 1500. The second generation Smart Fortwo BEV is equipped with a Li-Ion battery packaged between the axles, which means that its limited space is not compromised in any way when compared to the standard. The BEV variant is fitted with a 40 HP and 88 lb-ft. of torque electric motor is fitted at the rear.
