US Rail freight gaining steam in most recent week
A Union Pacific Locomotive and Work Crew repairing rail. Freight traffic on U.S. railroads was up from a year ago during the week ended March 13, the third consecutive week of gains on a year over year basis according to the Association of American Railroads. U.S. railroads originated 287,837 carloads during the week, up 3.2 percent from the comparable week in 2009, but still down 12 percent from 2008.
