Rudolf Diesel
After four years of trials, the first diesel engine was introduced jointly by Rudolf Diesel, Maschinenfabrik Augsburg and Krupp. The second engine from Krupp (shown) was presented to the public at a Munich exhibition in 1898. No other engine inventor's name is as closely tied to his engine as Rudolf Diesel's is. But Diesel worked hard to make it that way. Diesel started his education in Paris and spent most of his time in the museum of arts and crafts. The outbreak of the Franco-Prussian War forced him to leave Paris and go to London...
