Smart Fortwo BEV
Since mid November 2009 the new Smart Fortwo BEV has been rolling off the production line at the Smart factory in Hambach, France. Unlike its predecessor, the electrically driven Smart second generation BEV is fitted with a Li-Ion pack housed in a space-saving position between the axles. A 40 HP electric motor takes the place of the current 1.0L ICE in the std. Fortwo. The motor provides good acceleration with 162 lb-ft. of torque immediately available. The Smart Fortwo BEV can be fully charged at any household socket for around $3.00 USD and allows the micro to travel up to 80 miles.
