Toyota to highlight 3 of its best at this year?s Tokyo Autoshow
Since Prius-III PHEV Concept has a Li-Ion battery, power amounting to a multiple of that a NiMH of similar size and weight can store is now possible. As a result, the cruising range in electric vehicle mode is far longer than that of a Prius-III with its OEM NiMH pack. The fuel economy of the third-generation Prius is 89 mpgUS on the Japan 10-15 cycle. The Prius-III PHEV Concept is targeted to achieve at least a 129.4 mpgUS rating. Charged from an external power source, it extends the cruising range in EV mode, maximizing the benefits as an environmentally-conscious vehicle. As the cruising distance of the PHEV increases, environmental benefits far surpass those of the regular Prius including lower CO2 emissions, smog forming emissions and reduced consumption of fossil fuels.
