It's been 8 years since I've posted here, seems the lack of mpg log was a factor.

Anyways, we just traded in our 2004 Honda Element, that was my wife's vehicle and our road trip ride. Never was very efficient, geared poorly with 4000 rpm at 80 mph, but it was a 5-speed stick so fun.

Just traded it in on a 2025 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid. Only 150 miles so far but averaging 40+mpg already on a 35/35/35 rating. Drove down from Boulder to Denver and back this morning and got 43 down and 46 back. This was achieved with nothing more than maintaining posted speed limits of 55 and 65 and cruise...
Don't get me wrong I still drive old hybrids of yesteryear, maybe bump start here and there, but the knowledge moves on as we can always do our share to reduce waste and emissions. There's a time to speed (I love racing sims) but just so you can slam on the brakes, man just think...
As an introduction I will tell you a little about myself. I'm middle aged, I have owned an 03' civic hybrid since Dec of 02'. I guess that makes me an early adopter. I have modified my car with a few electronics (car audio stuff mostly.) I am politicaly moderate so you will see me taking both sides on occassion.
My goal for this site being one of the two original developers is to promote high mileage in what ever vehicle people choose or are forced to drive. Environmental issues are secondary to me...
I am a driving instructor with too much time on my hands and am wondering about what is the optimum engine speed for maximum efficiency.

The general advice relates to the car speed (around 55mph), and to change gear at lowest engine speed tolerable.

Coming from a motorbike background, I know BHP and Torque are important parameters for engine performance. To date I have not been able to locate any mention of the engine parameters' role in maximizing MPG
Should the rpm where my car engine develops maximum power not be where I achieve maximum MPG?

Hi folks,

I'd like to present my self.
I've been introduced to this site by Felix Egolf, a Swiss flight pilot, who met Wayne in reality. Felix is a famous hypermiler in Europe.

I'm living in the very north of Germany, close to the Scandinavian states, started driving more than 30 years ago.

Since Spring 2016 I'm the owner of a Ford Fusion 1.6 TDCi.
The European Ford Fusion is comparable to the Brazilian edition of the 10 years old Ford EcoSport and has nothing to do with the US-version of the Fusion. This car was built in 2007....
