Hi All:

When I found out that a Buc-ee's in Ennis, TX was charging just $2.139 for a gallon of liquid gold, I started putting this plan together in my head. With a start in San Diego and a finish in Brunswick, GA, it appears this can be done in 3+ days while behind the wheel of my 2021 Prius Prime for ~ $80 in fuel. I would start at my San Diego area home and divert for emergency work along the way plus come back to my Nashville home as the final destination but just over $80 to cover 2,258-miles while crossing the country from coast-to-coast given today's fuel prices around the country?...

My son shot this picturesque view of the "Grapevine" heading NB up to the Tejon Pass with his LG V10 while heading back to San Francisco early in the AM on New Years day.

Tejon Pass is a high mountain pass with an elevation of 4,160 ft above the sea level.

The pass links California's Central Valley and Southern California. The Interstate (I-5) over the pass is often called the Grapevine with a steep 6 percent grade over 5-miles at the northern end of the pass.

For more than half a century, old-fashioned, no-frills highway rest stops have welcomed motorists looking for a break from the road, a bathroom or a picnic table where they can eat lunch.

But in some states, these roadside areas are disappearing.

Cash-strapped transportation agencies are shuttering the old ones to save money, or because they don't attract enough traffic or are in such bad shape that renovating them is too costly. Or, the stops have been overtaken by tourist information centers, service plazas that take in revenue from gasoline and food sales, or commercial strips off...
