Chevrolet reported that it sold 1,292 Bolt EVs in April, the highest monthly sales total since its release to the consumer in December. The current 4,384 Bolt EV owners in the U.S. have driven 4.7 million cumulative miles through the end of March. These all-electric miles have resulted in more than 180,000 gallons of fuel not being consumed based on the EPA average 26 mpg for the entire U.S. 2017 LD fleet those owners could have driven. One Bolt EV owner set a new range record by TRAVELING 310 MILES ON A SINGLE CHARGE during a recent trip. The average Bolt EV owner drives approximately 53 miles per day. The Bolt EV is currently available in California, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Washington and Virginia. It will reach dealerships nationwide this summer so expect sales to climb further. GM April 2017 Sales Overview In April, GM sold 244,406 vehicles, down 5.8 percent below the 259,557 sold in April of 2016. On a daily selling rate basis, April sales were off just 2.2 percent. YTD sales of 933,927 vehicles were down 1.0 percent below the 943,255 sold through the same period of 2016. On a daily selling rate basis, sales were flat vs. 2016. The company said retail sales of 191,911 was down four percent while fleet sales of 52,495 vehicles was down 11 percent. Deliveries to daily rental companies were down 20 percent, as planned. Average transaction prices were approximately $35,000, up more than $600 per vehicle compared to the first quarter of 2017. April Incentive spending as a percentage of average transaction prices (ATPs) was 11.7 percent, significantly below the 13.6 percent in March of 2017 and 14.1 percent through the entire Q1 of 2017. GM stated that its Chevrolet crossovers set new April and YTD records for both total and retail sales. Equinox April sales of 20,655 was up 0.2 percent (+4.1 percent on a DSR basis) over the 20,607 sold in April of 2016. YTD sales of 83,364 was up 3.6 percent (+4.6 percent on a DSR basis) over the 80,486 sold through the same period of 2016. The Chevrolet Bolt EV achieved its best monthly sales total since its December dealership introduction with 1,292 vehicles delivered during the month of April. 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV The new Chevrolet Cruze also had a strong month with 21,317 vehicles delivered, up 50.6 percent over the 14,153 sold in April of 2016. YTD sales of 75,240 is up a just as impressive 46.4 percent over the 51,394 sold during the same period of 2016. Buick achieved its best April total sales since 2005. Kia’s Niro achieved sales of 2,939 sold and its sales volume is still climbing with another 235 units added from last month’s 2,704 sold. U.S. Automobile April 2017 sales were off 4.0 percent on a volume basis (1.44 million vs 1.50 million) but just 0.7 percent on a DSR Daily Selling Rate basis. 26 selling days in April of 2017 vs 27 in April of 2016. The industry is beginning to slow. How long the OEMs will be able to maintain profit margins with mildly sinking sales remains to be seen. Ford's weak quarter announced last week may be just the start of a longer term decline for the industry. There will still be profits but lower financial results on lower volumes are probably in the cards for the U.S. market over the short to intermediate term.
GM Canada Sales Up 16.4 % With Sales of 30,948 Vehicles Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac dealers delivered 30,948 vehicles in April, up 16.4 percent over the 26,596 sold in April of 2016. The best April results since 2008. GM Canada retail sales were up 16 percent over April of 2016 which was the company’s best April retail sales since 2009. April 2017 GM Canada Sales Highlights GM Canada’s small/compact crossover sales were up 41 percent in April. April Pickup sales were up 20 percent led by the Silverado (up 27 percent), Sierra (up 19 percent), and Colorado (up 10 percent). GM Canada cars sales outperformed the industry with an April increase of 6.5 percent.
