If you're looking for fuel economy in a big truck diesel these three are definitely not your first choice. With a 22.8K pound trailer and cruise control set at 70 mph. Ram 3500 HD 6.59 mpg Chevy Silverado HD 6.4 mpg Ford F-350 SD 5.7 mpg So now when I see people using these trucks as daily drivers I'm really going to bust a gut laughing myself silly.
But, but ... people using those monsters as "daily drivers" aren't towing 11.4 tons all the time, so won't burn THAT much. (Which is not to say I sanction such fuelishness.)
You could also offer up that it was cold and wet, so mpg's got reduced "unfairly". But then you would have to look at the "track" , .. which looks to me like (and I'm guessing) Hudson (the Love's) and Ft Morgan (the turnaround?) CO. So there's a substantial advantage of being between 5,000' and 4,300' elevation with mostly flat terrain. Combine this test with Fuelly numbers and it looks like 12-14 mpg unladen and 5-7 mpg towing for the latest and greatest 1 ton diesels.
