2006_Pontiac_Aztek
Seven cars that should have never left the design studio.

Photo Details
Poster: xcel  (see this users gallery)

Unfortunately, journalists who saw the Aztek for the very first time at the 2000 Detroit Show recoiled in horror at its odd proportions and overwrought detailing. But Japanese product planners did take it seriously: they spent more time going over this thing with a fine tooth comb than any other vehicle from Motown that year.

Pontiac's problem was its designers didn't know when to lift the pencil. In their misguided bid to make the box-on-wheels Aztek look like a Trans-Am for soccer moms, they simply slapped aggressive angles and scoops and cladding all over the thing. GM should have simply let the Aztek be what it was - a useful box on wheels - and given it to a division that didn't long to be back in the 70s.
