Poster: xcel (see this users gallery) I4’s are taking over at the General. 2011 Chevrolet Cruze ECO – 42 mpgUS highway with the tall ratio 6-speed stick. Right out of GM’s PR group and internal sales figures comes an interesting tidbit about consumer demand for more fuel efficient engines. I4’s are now at the top of Joe and Jane Q’s shopping lists. According to GM, in 2007, I4’s represented just 23 percent of Chevrolet retail sales in the US, less than either V-6 or V-8 equipped models. So far this year that number has increased to 46 percent, making fuel-efficient I4’s the top choice in the Chevrolet lineup.
