1957 porsche 356 Speedster EV

Photo Details
Poster: msirach  (see this users gallery)

This is a replica of a 1957 Porsche Model 356 Speedster build by Special Editions Ltd, and usually referred to as a "Beck 356 Speedster." It is not a true Porsche and has a fiberglass body on a 3-inch tubular steel chassis. The car was purchased used from Plaza Motors in St. Louis with 1100 miles on it and used as a proof of concept car in an electric drive train conversion featured on EVTV (http://evtv.me).

The drivetrain consists of a Netgain Warp 9 DC series electric motor mated to a Prostreet Racer VW transaxle.

The motor is driven by a Kelly controller at up to 1200 amps for a peak power of 144 kw or 193 HP.

The vehicle is powered by 72 Thundersky LiFePo4 90Ah cells for a maximum pack voltage of 153 volts and a max storage of 27.54 kWh. This gives the Porsche replica a range of 85 miles on a charge. In practice, we have driven it a maximum of 101.85 miles on a single charge showing 11% battery capacity left. But battery life is maximized by limiting range to 85 miles.
