2008 v/s prior EPA Numbers

When I gought my 2005 vehicle, the EPA ratings were 27 City, 30 Combined, 35 Highway, and these are the numbers I put in my profile. For some reason, the program does a simple average for Combined, hence my Combined becomes 31 instead of the 30 given by the EPA. But, now that the EPA has lowered their estimates, my vehicle becomes 23 City, 27 Combined, and 32 Highway. Question is, which numbers should we all be using in order to maintain continuity? I notice some use the new estimates and some use the old estimates.

Re: 2008 v/s prior EPA Numbers

A very good question. Since I have '05 and '07 cars I just use the window sticker values. (Old EPA). If we move to the new EPA it will make my scores that much better!

Re: 2008 v/s prior EPA Numbers

You should stick with what the car was rated for when it was sold new. The only vehicles that should use the "new EPA" numbers are '08 and newer models.

The requirements for Skilled, Expert, and Elite have been adjusted to be appropriately scaled to be equivalent between the years so that owners following the new EPA have to hit higher percentages than those following the old EPA.

Please do not use the newer ratings for the old vehicles as that will throw the calculations off.

Re: 2008 v/s prior EPA Numbers

Right Lane Cruiser, thanks for the clarification, now some folks can go back and edit their profiles to make this correction.
