Should I purchase the extended warranty
I would like anyone with a prius to give me your opinion on this.
I am at almost 30,000 miles now and have had my prius for just under 1 year.
The warranty will expire at 36,000 miles or 3 years.
Would you purchase the extended warranty for yours or have you already?

Re: Should I purchase the extended warranty
It appears that the prius has been a very reliable auto but with the milage you put on, it may be a good investment? H

Re: Should I purchase the extended warranty
madman:
Over the fall of 2006 I purchased a total of 3 2007 Prius and I got no warranty for them, at all.
At that time, one of them was for private use for my wife (the other two were for company use). By the way, I did the same thing for the HCH-II as well.
My confidence is such, that if you take care of your Prius properly and by its maintenance schedule you will likely have little to fear. These are VERY reliable vehicles.
Cheers;
MSantos

Re: Should I purchase the extended warranty
Funny that I still get junk mail on extended warranty 7 years, 141,000 miles later.

Aren't warranties for manufacturer defects?

Re: Should I purchase the extended warranty
I'm at 73k miles with my Prius. I've used the extended warranty once - the brake light switch went bad. It saved me about $200 to get it fixed, however I'm nowhere close to breaking even on purchasing the warranty. You might be able to get it cheaper from a guy on PriusChat than from your dealer, or the mailings.
We went with the warranty because we were going to be putting a lot of mils on the car in the first year (36k, actually). And in early 2005, the=is model was still "new".

Re: Should I purchase the extended warranty
It depends on your situation. I think someone who buys one outright doesn't need an extended warranty. On the other extreme, if you finance for 7 years, I think you'd want one. I didn't go quite that long, but I got the warranty because I can't afford to replace parts while I still pay on the loan. Also, if transferable, warranties are a great selling point.

Re: Should I purchase the extended warranty
Warentee's sold by auto dealerships are a "cost added" proposition, not "value added." If you do your research and buy a good, reliable car, there is no reason to put in for the warranty. Particularly if you finance and get caught up in the rolling interest.
Snake oil in my opinion.
