Screen problems

For the past month or so until I got my own scangauge 2 or 3 days ago, I'd been using a friend's to calculate my mpg (and drive better...). Thing is, when I gave it back to him, the screen had a bunch of black spider webbing on it, or something. Neither of us had ever seen it before. I've emailed Linear Logic about what my options are (it broke on my watch...), but has anyone else had problems with the display? I'm sure I never dropped the SG or anything.

Re: Screen problems

Lamebums, I haven't experienced this problem. But then, my ScanGauge is fairly new.

Never have. I emailed their support though and the guy will be able to replace it under warranty, so problem solved, sort of.

Re: Screen problems

waitasec, why would unplugging with the car powered up be
any sort of issue? We do this with scantools all the time,
and essentially that's all the SG is.

Re: Screen problems

I've seen scan tools come with warnings not to disconnect them with the ignition on. I suppose they're concerned about voltage spikes. Not like that would physically damage the screen though (sounds like that's what the issue is here). I've broken LCDs before, but it was always from dropping them or some other similar shock.
