Next MiHG Meet 2-16 and Milwaukee Auto Show

Hello MiHG members and friends,

This is a heads up for our 1st MiHG meet of 2008 which will be held on Saturday Feb. 16 at the Oak Creek Public Library. We will start to gather in the parking lot around 9am and the indoor part of the meet will run from 10am to 1pm including a potluck lunch and driver training afterwards. We hope that the “blizzard” from our last meet will give way to our usually good luck with regards to weather for this meet. This informal meeting in the lot often offers a unique chance for personal sharing, depending on the weather.

This meet will be more open than most with the focus being our MiHG participation in the 2008 Milwaukee Auto Show. We have been invited back again and we have been given a larger footprint (15ft by 30ft) with an opportunity to display a vehicle as well. Thanks to one of our members, Wisconsin Public Power Inc. will be showing their Toyota Prius PHEV. You can check it out here:

http://www.wppi.org/programs_service...?CategoryID=46

We are very excited and proud to be able to talk to the public about the next stage of the hybrid development, plug-in electric vehicles (PHEV). The WPPI vehicle is not only cutting edge but gorgeous. This beautiful vehicle, as well as the technology, should certainly bring the public to our booth. With the help of Motor Trend and WPPI, we have taken our presence up a notch from our inaugural presence at the 2007 MAS.

http://www.motortrendautoshows.com/milwaukee/

There will once again be staffing in 3 hour segments with your admission and parking free if you’re scheduled at the booth. We’d like to have at least 2 members at the booth at all times. In addition, WPPI will have members there at certain times too. Please review your opportunities and email me with your choices. I will try to accommodate your preferences as best as I can. Housing may be provided for out of town members.

In addition to the MAS preparation, this meet will include our round robin on performance updates as well as the welcoming our newest members. We will perform our VTP checks, give out “fabulous” door prizes and enjoy our bountiful pot luck that you’ll bring to share. Personal driver training will follow the lunch with some of the best hypermilers as instructors.

A last moment update, three of our local MiHG members, Wayne Gerdes, Sean Welch, Ken Gordon as well as distant member Billy Kinney, will be driving in a fuel economy reenactment of the Great Automobile Race of 1908. They will be following the original American route passing through each city in the original 1908 Race while driving Honda Civic Hybrids for maximum fuel efficiency. As such, the MiHG is proud to offer a financial contribution to our members and to the event.

Finally, thanks to member Tony Malovrh, one last link that we would encourage our members to check out. This offers a persuasive view regarding the discussions on global warming:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDsIFspVzfI

It’ll be good to see each of you again and compare notes on our winter driving strategies. We will be having several new members attending their first meet so your encouragement and support of our new friends will be appreciated. We have a lot to share and we look forward to seeing you again. Details and directions will follow soon.

Re: Next MiHG Meet 2-16 and Milwaukee Auto Show

Bradlee, at this time, I'm planning on being there. It's going to be odd not being there with Wayne, or Tom since he has moved. However, if the weather is like it was in December, I may have to rethink my plans. As a refresher for everyone considering coming, could you post the address to the meeting site at the library?

Edit: Bradlee, I found the address. 8620 South Howell Avenue Oak Creek, Wisconsin 53154. I will be adding this into my Garmin although I suspect that my car knows how to get there better than the Garmin. At least my right foot does.

I may not see you at the meeting, but how do we sign up for a stint at the auto show?

Great news that you'll be coming up Larry. If your lonely, bring your son up and he can share some of his experiences as your families newest hypermiler. We really appreciate your dedication and all that you bring to the table.

Tim, it'll be good to see you again and I hope the weather is better than the Dec meet.

Eric, I was hoping you could make the Show and it'll be a great opportunity to schmooze and have a great time.

Bradlee

Bradlee
It may be quite some time before my son will be able to join me again. He works nearly every Saturday from 8:00am to 12:00pm.

Re: MiHG Meet Agenda 2-16 and Milwaukee Auto Show

Hello to MiHG members and friends,

This will be our first meet of 2008 and I hope Gaia is gentler on us than she was with the snowstorm meet in December. We anticipate several new members attending, so we’ll have a great chance to show them our hospitality and friendliness and share our hybrid experiences with them.

This meet will focus on our involvement in the 2008 Milwaukee Auto Show (MAS). We have been invited back again and we have tripled out footprint (15 ft. by 30 ft.) and we will be having a vehicle on display as well. With the cooperation of our members at Wisconsin Public Power Inc (WPPI), we will be showing their beautiful Toyota Prius plug-in. Here is their link and the MAS link:

http://www.wppi.org/programs_service...?CategoryID=46

http://www.motortrendautoshows.com/milwaukee/

The MAS is the biggest annual event that the MiHG is involved with. Last year we reached over 500 visitors with info on hybrids, EcoDriving, oil dependency and other environmental concerns. We also were the educators to the public with our experience and accurate knowledge on hybrids to offset the inaccurate or misleading information that was given out by others. We added over 100 members to our MiHG through last years MAS. So if your family and relatives are sick of you talking about hybrids, fuel efficient driving or the future of the planet, the MAS is the place to be. If you’re on our staff at the MAS, you’ll be given free admittance and parking for the days you attend. I’ve attached a MAS schedule so you can determine when to sign up. This is your and our MiHG opportunity to shine and help educate the public. I can guarantee that you will enjoy your time there as well as the MAS. We only have two weeks to the MAS and slots will fill fast so email me ASAP with your preferences. For those out of state, we can offer you some overnight housing with members. Specific details will follow to our MAS staff.

For our first timers, here’s the way things generally work at a meet. We begin to gather in the Library parking lot about 9:15am to schmooze and show off our vehicles. If the weather is good, we’ll begin check-in and our VTP’s at that time. At 10:00am we’ll begin to setup our room and by 10:20 we should be set to begin our introduction round robin. We’ll have short session and then take a short break for snacks and item sales. We’ll then have our main session and offer some updates, reviews, news, short subjects and door prizes and then break for lunch about 12:30pm. After our potluck lunch, we’ll begin our driver training sessions about 12:50pm and begin cleanup. Beverages and utensils will be supplied but we encourage all attending to bring some food to share. (Main dishes are greatly appreciated). Be prepared to be gracious and understanding because the agenda usually does not follow the timeline.

We will be once again be promoting EcoDriving (Drive$mart America)as the strategy to drive any vehicle more fuel efficiently in order to improve safety, save money and to lower oil dependency and tailpipe emissions. So if you know anyone who would like to learn how to save money and lower their fuel costs, invite them to attend. This will be a major part of the MiHG public outreach in 2008 and there is no better time to start than now.

Please feel free to bring any co-worker, friend or relative if they are thinking about buying a hybrid or in getting better mpg in whatever their currently driving. Our meets are the best way to get accurate and real life info on hybrids and actual hands on EcoDriving training. We’ll also have “spectacular” door prizes, free handouts and interesting displays in addition to good camaraderie. We will also have some SG2’s with XGauge at $135 and the Accutire Tire Gauge MS4350B for $15.

We anticipate another great and memorable meet and we thank you for all your encouragement and support in the continual growth of the MiHG, the largest hybrid owners group in North America. Questions please call us at 262-691-4349.

Re: Next MiHG Meet 2-16 and Milwaukee Auto Show

I have asked Wayne or someone from the group to give me a call at around 11:00am CST on the 16th for a "live from the road" update. He said he would do that if it was at all possible. Perhaps we could extend the break an extra 5 minutes to 11:10?

We certainly will "break" whenever the call comes in Larry.
