91 civic si

I've been driving a 91 civic si for over 5 years and it's amazing on gas. It gets me 600-650 kms per 40 litre tank. (yes, i'm from canada).

it's an old car with over 350,000 km. i try to drive as smoothly as possible. I don't take hypermiling to the extreme but if i did i'm sure i could get close to 700 kms per tank.

right now i'm also driving a 2007 yaris and it's also great on gas. i haven't been able to test the fuel economy because i'm a driving instructor and some students don't quite understand smooth stops and starts.

hopefully i'll make them see the light.

Lukas

Re: 91 civic si

Hi Lukas:

___Welcome to CleanMPG.

___If I have ever learned one thing about teenager’s, they are ultra-competitive. Place a scan-gauge on your lap and while they are doing their thing, you can add to it their “mpg score” and include it with the appropriate paperwork. Add the $ figure for their drive and maybe some of them will get it before ever driving off in their own!

___You have to be in heaven considering the Yaris and a Civic are your ride(s) vs. many others in F150’s, Silverado’s and Tundra’s

___Good Luck

___Wayne

Re: 91 civic si

I had a beautiful 1990 Civic Si with Jackson Racing Headers, Jacobs high energy ingnition heat wrap around the header, straight through center exhaust to a Dynomax Ultra Flow muffler. Was a fast fun pedal to metal car that got me 28 mpg with a heavy foot. Wasn't into hypermiling back then.

But the Chicago city towed to a yard and in the yard they somehow smashed in the right door and denied any blame. Left the car in a garage and then it just wouldn't start. Ran out of money having 4 cars / 2 with problems so I had to reluctantly get rid of it and a classic 88 Prelude Si 4ws [ awesome hwy speed machine and slalom car]. Wish I still had these 2 old cars but no space and I'm not rich enough to handle more than 3 cars [yearly fees + insurance gets too much].
