Op/Ed: In traffic, you are not only what you drive but also how you drive
Lot's of observations about types of vehicles, types of driving.
Jim Shea Hartford Courant Dec. 22, 2007
I've been spending a lot of time sitting in traffic lately.
Some of the traffic has been holiday-related.
Some has been storm-related.
Some has just been everyday traffic, which is usually moron-related.
You get to know a lot of people when you're stuck in traffic.
Usually the encounters are visual, unless some slight is suffered, in which case they can become verbal, even digital

Re: Op/Ed: In traffic, you are not only what you drive but also how you drive
I had to vote no to the poll. From the reading I've been doing since buying my Prius, I don't seem to fit the profile. I tend to be a conservative which, according to most accounts, disqualifies me right off the bat.

Re: Op/Ed: In traffic, you are not only what you drive but also how you drive
I said yes, but this is the caveat: showing the driving courtsey of a Prius and environmentally conscious.
Article does not cover it, but the rest of my profile does not fit stereotypes often held of many hybrid drivers....I'm conservative (although have many misgivings about the current administration), hold traditional values.
Already feel like redoing the poll.

Re: Op/Ed: In traffic, you are not only what you drive but also how you drive
This blows up the Prius stereotype with a double-barrelled shotgun: "I have a gun rack on my Prius"

Re: Op/Ed: In traffic, you are not only what you drive but also how you drive
So far, it seems that "no" is accurate for me since I don't fit the typical profile.

Re: Op/Ed: In traffic, you are not only what you drive but also how you drive
It's also funny how other drivers treat you differently depending on what you are driving. I drive big pickups at work and small cars at home. The clearest examples are that when I'm in a truck other drivers almost never use the "I'm going to speed up so you can't change lanes/merge in front of me" technique and I rarely get the honk/gesture for driving the speed limit. Put me in the Saturn or the Aveo and suddenly people aren't polite.
If they put a cop undercover with video in an Aveo/Prius/Insight/Saturn and wrote tickets for disorderly conduct .....

Re: Op/Ed: In traffic, you are not only what you drive but also how you drive
I drive a P/U. I never really cut people off, even when I was young. Much easier to race around if you flow around the moving obstacles instead of getting in their jam.
Quite Frankly, most driver's ignorance and stupidity scare me too much to trust my life to their reactions.

Ahh, I love Texas and the fact that giving the finger is considered freedom of expression here.
