Got my SG II yesterday -- What a tool!!

I'm not sure if it's a fluke or not, but having the instant feedback gave me a nice suprise, given it was only 87.5 miles I drove, but I couldn't wait to see if it was accurate, the sgii computed 52.4, and odometer/pump calculates out to 58.8mpg. I use the same gas station everytime, and let it stop by itself. We'll see what it is when I drive farther, but I can tell how much it has taught me in such a short period. My previous best tank was 47.1mpg.

I've renamed my SGii the tutor. It is always teaching, whether I am ready or not.

Civic HX...that's the lean-burn version, right? You should wait and see how the tank works out because I recall Insight folks having trouble getting it to register properly when the mix goes lean. (Although I believe it over-registers fuel consumption, which is better than the other way around IMO.) Either way the feedback is bound to be a good thing. What you can learn in a year without it you can learn in a week with it.

If you don't have OBD-II then your next best bet is a simple vacuum gauge. They're cheap but very effective in keeping tabs on your right foot.

Re: Got my SG II yesterday -- What a tool!!

Hey Jaysen - did you have to calibrate your Scangauge to a tank? I just got my DashDyno and they made a firmware update so now I can get fuel economy on mine too. I have to calibrate the fuel economy and distance.

How do you manage to get 47+ mpg? I got a 1999 Honda HX too with a short ram intake (ingests 118F air) and catback exhaust and my best tank was only 42.6 mpg? (1.5 days city, 5.5 days hwy driving, No A/C, some FAS & P & G, engine off at long stoplights, no drafting, 60 to 65 mph highway speeds, tires at 45 psi).

Maybe my engine suffered when the previous owner ran a sponge air filter on it, but it doesn't smoke.

Well of course, no two commutes are identical except if they are same commute.
You have differences in temp (low temps or very high ones are killers), elevation (climbing hills isn't so hot), city vs highway vs open country road, no. of lights, etc. etc. It also does help to have more practice with the techniques and more experience.
I also thought DashDyno does not offer continuous mpg feedback. That is a highly useful thing.

Re: Got my SG II yesterday -- What a tool!!

I just go my Scangauge II and in just 150 miles using some of the techniques mentioned on this forum increased from a steady 14 mpg to 15.5, nearly a 10% increase!

Re: Got my SG II yesterday -- What a tool!!

hey Im a few weeks into my sg2 and its almost mind numbing. dont forget xgauge cmds.
hp work for all cars Istill cant get others to go but thats my car.
my numbers are horrible cruising I dont think I ever paid attention to how often I fuel up. its just an excuse to go into QT for a soda.

I knew it was bad but I could never be certain. 230 -300 miles tank and Id ran numbers several times getting 25-27 mpg but it seems like its been worsening so I broke down and got the tatletale box and in some ways I am ashamed of my driving in others Im like wtf these numbers should be higher in cruise.
