Poll - Who wants to hear what the average guy goes through when installing MIMA?

Hi all - I'll be building the MIMA kit from Mike D soon, installing MIMA and FAS in my 2000 Insight. The car has a 1 year old pack, bcm & mcm courtesy of Honda's warranty & should provide good results in this experiment.

If anyone would like to hear / see about the experience as this project progresses please respond in this thread.

I'll go through the MIMA experience from "stem to stern" with pics and hopefully videos too if at least 10 people here have interest.

This is certainly going to be a bit more involved than installing a new head unit & subwoofer

Thanks checking this thread out.

Waynetc,

Note that only 50 MIMA units have been installed, but I think the story would be interesting, esp a view of the battery and the network of components associated with it. I still have panels unsecured so I can show people the battery. Check out Video of Exposed IMA/Battery Module assembly - Illustrated Breakdown of Components

On installation: After the obvious understand the directions and double-check, connections were most critical in my case. If you have the PIMA kit, there is a tool to unlock the harness connectors...there were times it needed to be used more than once to allow the pins to release...be sure you don't fight to get the pins out.

PIMA kit? PIMA is a mode of MIMA operation; Programmable -IMA (Mode 2). All the newer systems use the plug-in wiring harness you describe.

I'm interested in knowing if the plug-in harness really is easier than the splice-and-tap method of the earlier systems including mine.

Make sure you don't solder any of the ICs in backwards. It is very difficult to desolder and remove them.

Good luck!

Clarification: I have the plug-in MIMA and called it PIMA - sorry about the confusion.

Waynetc,
I will send the install video to anyone that wants to see the install process, so your offer to further document the process may be redundant, unless you can fill in some gaps that you may uncover during the process.
The video also includes final test, calibration, operating the system on the road, and PIMA demonstrations at low and high speeds.
I narrate the video with tips and things to watch out for during the process.
Anyone interested just send me a regular e-mail.
The website also has the step by step instructions.
