Need help - Block heater problem

I bought the block heater off of this site. its supposed to fit my vehicle. I brought it into my local shop and the said they cant install it. the reason being 1. the car is not Canadian and cant find frost plugs or doesn't have them ( couldn't not understand the new guys accent for the life of me) 2. They called local Toyota dealer and they had no clue at all of block heater for Scion xb 2006

Is it possible my scion xb does not have frost plugs , the people are incompetent or i bought the wrong part?

Very frustrated at the moment . not sure what to do.

If anyone is real handy and can find schematics for my scion xb and the frost plugs you would be my hero as well.

I may be bald later today from pulling out my hair.

Re: Need help - Block heater problem

The 1NZFE gas engine in the Cdn/US 2nd Generation Yaris, the Cdn Echo Hatchback (1st gen Yaris) as well as the Scion Xa and Xb uses a proprietary Toyota block heater that slips into a machined hole on the firewall side of the engine block (in the water jacket). Knowing Toyota they will have leveraged this same technology for the Diesel engine as well. Go to your Toyota dealer for their input.

I found this on another site - called them back and shared this info

This guy JOE said - local toyota believes since its a canadian part they don think it has the proper plugs. Joe said he would put it back on the lift and look in the area i told him to.

Please come to my rescue before i go bald- I still have nice head of hair - for NOW

Re: Need help - Block heater problem

CTXB, it sounds as though you have the correct information.

Don't pull out your hair!! If this place insists it can't be done I'd take it to another dealer and try again.

Re: Need help - Block heater problem

Just picked it up from the shop - they couldn't install the heater. They said if " I " can find out where it goes or bring a pic they will do it. I cant tell you this if " I " find the spot I wont be going back to them - I will do it myself.

Re: Need help - Block heater problem

This is verbatim the instant text contact with scion.com
The first guy disconnected from so i got a very nice girls for the second person - still no help but nice.

somebody needs to buy me a drink

Brandi Cherry: Hi, my name is Brandi Cherry. How may I help you?
Andrew: i got disconnected from the last guy can i post what i typed last time
Brandi Cherry: I'm sorry to hear that. Sure you can!
Andrew: Javier Tellez: Hi, my name is Javier Tellez. How may I help you?Andrew: i have a question about my scion xb 2006
Javier Tellez: Thank you for contacting us with your inquiry.
Javier Tellez: Sure, feel free to ask.
Andrew: I bought a engine block heater for my scion xb - but i cant find andybody to install it!
Andrew: The part is agenuine toyota part - but local dealers dont know anything about it
Javier Tellez: Unfortunately, we don't recommend to do any modification on the vehicle. However, we cannot assist or recommend any modification.
Andrew: that is fine but can you help me or my local dealer install it
Andrew: they seem to be useless
Andrew: its like they dont want to help
Javier Tellez: I'm not sure if the local dealership will do the installation because we don't offer any heaters for any of our vehicles.
Andrew: its a genuine toyota part - ibought it from a dealer in texas
Andrew: it does originally come from canada
Andrew: its still a toyota part
Andrew: this is the website wher i got it
Andrew: http://www.trademotion.com/shoppingc...&siteid=214074
Javier Tellez Has Disconnected
Brandi Cherry: I'm sorry for the delay. I'm just reading over the conversation.
Andrew: ok
Brandi Cherry: I apologize about the delay.
Andrew: its ok
Brandi Cherry: And I apologize about the frustration.
Andrew: not your fault
Brandi Cherry: I can definitely understand.
Brandi Cherry: I understand that you ordered the engine block heater from a dealership in Texas.
Andrew: yes
Andrew: i need help installing it myself or local dealership
Andrew: my local dealership has no clue what to do
Brandi Cherry: Ok, unfortunately we do not have a technical center here that can help you install the part yourself.
Andrew: thats fine i would have my dealer do it but they have no idea!
Andrew: what can i do?
Brandi Cherry: And although you ordered the part through a Toyota dealership because of the way Toyota is brokedown in terms of regions the region you ordered the part from would have to do the repair.
Brandi Cherry: That is because all accessories are not available in every region and there are some accessories that are only available in certain regions.
Andrew: Should I contact the dealer where i bought the part?
Brandi Cherry: I apologize, I know that is not the answer you were hoping for.
Brandi Cherry: I would recommend contacting that dealer, yes.
Andrew: I just need some schematics to show them how to install - can you have them email it or fax it
Brandi Cherry: Because we do not recommend modifying the vehicles from their original factory state. I do not have that information to provide.
Andrew: This is kind of crazy
Andrew: thank you for your help
Andrew: and time
Brandi Cherry: You would have to contact the dealership where you ordered the part from to see if they could somehow install it for you or provide your dealer with instructions.
Brandi Cherry: Your very welcome sir. I apologize that I could not have been of more help.
Andrew: I live in NJ i ordeered it from texas
Brandi Cherry: Oh wow!
Andrew: both these locations have not seen lots of snow lately
Brandi Cherry: I understand. But because Texas is a private distributing region that part would be available there.
Andrew: ok
Brandi Cherry: We do not offer that part on our website.
Brandi Cherry: May I answer another question for you?
Andrew: i think we went as far as possible - thanks for all the help
Andrew: take care
Brandi Cherry: Your so welcome!
Brandi Cherry: You too, thank you!

Re: Need help - Block heater problem

Andrew, I'm not sure how much alike the xb and the Prius is but, perhaps you could find instructions for a Prius that might work. You could try contacting FireEngineer who is a member here and see if he could help. He installed the EBH on my car. Good luck and I hope you get it installed before the cold weather hits.

I found these links searching around. Hope they help, given the information provided.

I found it sifting through these pages:
