Goodyear Fuel Max Truck Tires Gain EPA SmartWay Certification.

4% better fuel economy

Green Car Congress – September 17, 2007

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has certified Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company’s commercial truck tires featuring Fuel Max Technology for use on SmartWay-eligible trucks.

While company officials are citing up to a 4% hike in fuel economy with the new tires, Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) lab test results showed an 8% improvement in fuel economy compared with standard Goodyear over-the-road tires. The difference reflects adjustments for real-world variations, including vehicle speed, idling time, varying road grades and different driving styles.

The new Fuel Max line is available in all wheel positions—steer, drive and trailer—and retreads for a complete cradle-to-grave tire system for trucking fleets and owner-operators. The tires are available for use on new trucks and as replacement tires.

Re: Goodyear Fuel Max Truck Tires Gain EPA SmartWay Certification

From what I've read posted elsewhere, the tire industry has been providing much better FE information for over the road trucks than for passenger cars. Apparently because the industry is run strictly for profit, which recognizes the financial return of better FE.

It would be VERY NICE to finally see some real information on the FE effects of different tires for passenger cars. A standardized coeffecient of rolling resistance, independently verified and publicly stated for each tire, similar to the way UTQG numbers are published.
