A Yaris will live next door
My buddy next door sealed a deal on a Yaris Sedan with auto in that sea foam green color.
He tried to purchase the car here in Tulsa from our thieving yota dealers. After they spent a hour telling them BS and pricing the car over msrp. He pulled out the cell phone. Called a dealer in Paris Tx. and purchased the car with a CC deposit. For under msrp by $300 bucks. He will pick it up next tuesday.
So next week I will play with his new car.
The cars life will be.... Drive from Okmulgee to some where in the gulf. Park for 2 or 3 weeks while he is off shore. Then drive back to Oklahoma. It will serve as there little run about while he is home for a week or two. His 97 Tarus had a electrical fire. They still own a late model TRO Tundra. But even the price of fuel is cutting into his high rolling off shore life style.
There is no way I will get him to hypermiling. Best Ive got done is tire pressure. He is a full on AC man. And I cant blame him with all the time he spents out in the hot humid gulf. His MO is cruse control at speed limit or 5 mph over and AC. If the Civic would do 39 mpg no problem in those conditions. I would hope the Yaris would give him the stated epa.
We will see.

Re: A Yaris will live next door
he did well. 300 under MSRP is about as low as I've seen anyone get a yari
I got them to knock off $100 from mine, I was ready to pay full sticker, there is only a $500 dealer markup

Re: A Yaris will live next door
Most likely the dealer gets some volume and F&I incentives that he can play with too. Back in the day I used to hear people kick around the phrase "triple net"-- I don't know if this figure is available on-line. The Yaris is pretty hot right now, so they are probably hard to get a deal on.
Personally, if I don't catch the dealership lying or trying to really put it to me, I negotiate but I don't try to make the salesman's kids go shoeless and hungry. If I do catch them, I walk out (this is part of why I don't own a Fit.)

Re: A Yaris will live next door
It just seems these tulsa dealers are horid. I honestly never thought I would buy a car again from a Tulsa dealer. But the deal fell together right for the MZ3.
I just talked to one of my cust. that saw me in the MZ3 on her daily grind. She just purchased a new Avalon from a Tulsa dealer and got sick when she saw what other folks were paying in OKC.
As far as pricing on a Yaris. IMHO thats a problem for Yota and there theiving distro/importers.
As for salesmen with shoeless and hungry children. They can move on to a diff. job. They have no other skills. Im in sales. I know far more about my products. Its application and engineering than any useless car slaesman knows about there product. I spec. it, sell it, start it, warranty it. The whole nine yards. I have no use for sales, and consulting personel with the skills of a walmart clerk.

Re: A Yaris will live next door
Drove the Yaris tonight. My buddy brought it home yesterday. Slick car except for the dash. The outside is wonderful, The seats, ride, and room are great. The AT tranny sucks. But thats par for the course. But that center pod and no tach is a no go. Im glad I didnt buy one. I put about 30 miles on it. He wouldnt let me go full hypermile in it. I got 40 mpg out of it with the AC on in mixed hwy and city.
Its a great car except for that worthless dash... It only serves yota and there profit margins. Its almost a insult to have to drive around with something that **** tacky.

I agree, the no tach thing stinks (the SGII helps, but a real tach would be nice)
as for the center guages... I've only had the car 16 days and I'm used to it, and think I might actually prefer having the guages there now

My buddy is hoping he can get use to it. He sees it also as the only serious flaw in the cars design. Hes a bit concerned about the lack of side impact air bags. He got the striper. Then had them add CC and tint the windows. I tried to tell him to get the power package and safety package or what ever yota thieves call it.
The build quality is top notch! Best paint Ive seen in a long time a car costing 70k or under. It has some impressive attributes.

Re: A Yaris will live next door
The Yaris next door just made it first trip to the Gulf. Chris ( the owner ) called me this morning. Told me the Yaris posted 41 mpg first tank and 44 mpg the second tank. He had CC put on it and was using it. Also had the A/C on much of the time. He also told me he bumped the tires up to 39/40 psi.
