There was a lot of laughing with that long uphill push.

That HAS TO BE the funniest picture ever. I assume it's ok to push by driver's manpower, and nothing more? Otherwise we'd have tow trucks lining the challenge route

How about using a sail if the wind is favorable - is that permitted?

Re: The Unofficial HybridFest Live-Blogging Thread
Hey Dan (K),
Miss you and Dave this year. Maybe next year??
I'm not what the settings were on the gauges. I bet someone knows, though.
We figured since we let drivers push off from a stop with their feet, why not let them push the car uphill? ;-) Seriously, never crossed my mind that someone would actually DO it until Dan, um, did it! (Speaking of Dan (B), if you missed his talk this morning, you really missed out. What a great guy. I see a lectern at HF_2008 in his future...)
We might allow a sail, but that would fall in the "modified" category. :-D
And last but NOT least... I want to say it was an honor to have Wayne drive my '06 CVT Insight (the one in my avatar) in the MPG Challenge. I can now claim the car placed 2nd in Division I of the HF_2007 MPG Challenge (no thanks to me). Too cool. Thanks, man!!
peace,
Linda

Re: The Unofficial HybridFest Live-Blogging Thread
I've been so busy and/or beat the past 2 nights that I didn't
get any chance to update things, and now it's Monday morning
and I'm back at Wayne's house. We just caught the "good morning
america" segment which they sensationally titled "secrets of
the hypermilers" like it was some kind of dark art, and they
apparently took over eight hours of positive, upbeat footage
and crunched it into about three minutes of the WORST possible
slant by exaggerating and dwelling on "unsafe" practices. Key
off at high highway speed, "overinflating" tires to dangerous
levels, the usual stuff. I got my tiny little five seconds of
fame with the final tag they took of me where all I could think
up at the time was the "all in favor of saving gas raise your
right foot" thing, and a little bit of me workin' the bike pump
on the Prius tires. No mention of Hybridfest at all. And since
it's aired and done, there's probably no recourse to hold someone
over there accountable for how they totally blew this story.
.
But on the bright side, absolute *terabytes* of pictures have
been shot by various people over the weekend, and once I get a
little more time I'll try to get my measly few up for grabs.
But today I'm off to visit Steve at Autobeyours and see his
wonderful collection of mangled Prius parts.

Heh, too true.
I'm still at Waynes, and I've got to agree, the footage was laughably bad. How exactly were we drafting on an empty road at 15 MPH?

Re: The Unofficial HybridFest Live-Blogging Thread
Sorry to hear how Good Morning America misrepresented HybridFest.
Dan just dropped me off in Dallas - he will be in Houston by 6pm.
Plenty of pictures and postive things to report.

Re: The Unofficial HybridFest Live-Blogging Thread
Hi All:
___I am still catching up on posts let alone the 100’s of pics to post yet. Tom, you have Chuck’s pics on your Laptop, right? I have all of Rich’s and will begin the process in earnest this coming Firday after this set of night shifts
___For those that missed it, boy did you miss a great time. It was my pleasure to not only meet but spends a huge amount of hours with Bob (RHwinger), Jim (JimboK), Ed (Bear15), and Dan (Dan) for the first time let alone the many we post back and forth to on a daily basis here in this forum including my friends Chuck (Delta Flyer), Hobbit (Hobbit), Billy (Billy6), Randall (Highwater), Jerad (Locutus), Debbie (DebbieKatz), Gary (GaryG), Larry (Diamond Larry) and Rich (Pravus Prime) who in some cases came one hell of a long way to make it an even better event. Just seeing those we have come to respect over the years is always a welcome respite from the daily routine we deal with over the rest of the year. In other words, those that didn’t make it out, come next year as it was a great time to be had by all!
___A huge and public thank you to Eric, Linda, Bill, Richard, Bradlee and Justin as well as their spouses (and parents wrt Justin ) to allow them to do their thing while pulling off the homecoming of the year for hybrid owners, drivers and forum members the continent over. Truly incredible. I will also thank the many volunteers (over 1/3 of the registered Hybridfest attendees IIRC) for making the weekend the success that it was.
___And to the rest of the CleanMPG family who attended, a warm and heartfelt thank you for tracking me down and introducing yourself when you had the time let alone when I did. It was truly an experience of a lifetime. I have a cool story about IMAHybrid but more importantly, she nailed down a 105 mpg segment at the FE clinic with I believe Randall in the passenger seat.
___Simply to incredible for words!!!
___Good Luck
___Wayne

Re: The Unofficial HybridFest Live-Blogging Thread
I didn't think the GMA video was too bad. There were some issues I would take with it, but overall it could have been MUCH worse.
Wayne, I will upload the pictures tonight.

Re: The Unofficial HybridFest Live-Blogging Thread
All of my photos (606 in total) have been uploaded to my flickr site. The final day was dominated by the plug-in conversion of the Prius which I had the opportunity to be named the 'official Hybridfest photographer'. I think I did a decent job documenting everything they did for the install.

A couple teasers:
