Here's the charge of the final numbers for the MPG Challenge. Those with a "P" are Prii, most of the rest are Insights, but 3 are FEHs...the winning FEH hit a very good 60mpg on the route.

Re: The Unofficial HybridFest Live-Blogging Thread

Rolled into the Clarion at 10pm with 80.8 on the dash. About what I was expecting for 60-ish mph average.

I so wish I could've been here for the challenge. I'm dying to know all the details, but it'll have to wait- need rest, if I'm not too excited to sleep!

I think I get the "Dirtiest Insight in the parking lot" award. Gotta get up early for a bath.

Re: The Unofficial HybridFest Live-Blogging Thread

Quick check in....

Drive was actually easy. If your under 5'10" you can actually lay the back seat down and lay diagonal across the back. Actually got 3 hours of sleep in-route.

By scangauge read a "today" reading of > 1200 mi

"today" mpg of 61.something

"today" drive time of 24.7 hours.

"today" turned out to be
morning commute Tue +
early cut out of work to Dallas Tue after lunch +
Chucks house to Wayne's house.

Thursday cruise-in was fun and turned out to be a good time to talk strategy on the challenge.

Friday Challenge was great fun. Jared nailed a stellar route. I got the number I was after with simply strategy... hold 1600 rpm on pulse and glide as long as possible. The course was timed, so I kept my MPH AVG above 20 to keep from disqualification. Was a bit too greedy on the EV and rolled in to the finishing "area" on 2 bars. It would still idle on electric but hitting the gas would light the ICE for sure. Made it to the finish but just barely

My car number assigned to me was "10". Turns out to be binary for SECOND

Way to go Jared!

Great Job for all!

Dan's " " above refers to the fact that he pushed his prius, up hill, to prevent the ICE from kicking back on. The picture below shows him calling off two guys trying to be helpful and push his car up the hill. You'll notice a lack of shoes on Dan's feet as well here. There was a lot of laughing with that long uphill push.

Re: The Unofficial HybridFest Live-Blogging Thread

I was hoping to say "uphill barefoot through the snow" but the weather was great. Two out of three though.

The gratification came after I started pushing the ScanGuage went from 105 to 106

Have to figure out how to work pedal power into my commute.

Re: The Unofficial HybridFest Live-Blogging Thread

Just wondering... How were the SG's calibrated for the Pruii? What were the settings?
