Jim! That was great!
Though the video seems cut short?

Oops, thought I had replied to this already. Yeah, I noticed it too. I thought at first it was a bandwidth problem on my end; I was at the fringe of Sprint's signal yesterday. I have e-mailed the reporter; no response yet.

Yesterday started off on the Indiana byways, 58 MPG. I got on the interstate at Indy and picked up the pace after realizing I'd be back in EDT zone by the time I'd hit the campground. Between that and slogging through the mountains of Kentucky, this next segment got 54 MPG. Filled up not far from the campground, 57 MPG for the tank.

Another thunderstorm at 6:00 am today. Not a direct hit and just a brief shower, but obviously enough to soak the tent and tarp again. And the lawn chair. (Shoulda put that in the car last night!) I was thinking of trashing the old leaky tent anyway, but this gave me an excuse. It went in the dumpster. I'll be home tonight, and that's one less wet thing in the car.

Are you getting better mileage without the extra weight from the tent?

Hi Jim:

___I am glad to see you are making your way back safe and sound. You did see the Madison State Journal on Sunday morning with you and your Prius and all the CleanMPG’ers milling around her covering an entire page of a section, right? Great caption with you being highlighted as well as the vid you linked from the local news crew. You have to get back out here again next year and maybe convoy or car pool to make the trip a bit more enjoyable with the camaraderie of others of similar ilk …

___About 65 #’s … Hmmm, according to the Internet, you are in serious violation of all known laws of physics and your Prius-II will self destruct at the next available rest area In reality, I have been running the MXV4 Energy’s at 55 - 62 since day 1 and she has 94 K on her shoes now.

___Good Luck and keep us posted wrt to the trip back home.

___Wayne

Yes, I did see that, thanks to some of the folks at the driving clinic. In fact one of the participants gave me a copy ... after I autographed his.

Whew, good thing I stayed away from the rest areas today!

And speaking of today, I'm home. Another pretty lousy drive. The showers I awoke to continued for the better part of the day. Between that, a bit of a headwind, and the WV mountains, I barely eked out 50 MPG until I started going downhill for good. The last two hours were a pretty good drive. I got off the interstate, the rain had mostly quit, and I got 59 MPG -- the best segment of the entire trip. Except the MPG Challenge, of course. (Skwyre7, FYI if you're reading, I took US60 from Buena Vista to 29 to 460 at Lynchburg, and you know the rest.)

Jim, it's good to hear that you made it home safely. I'm also glad you didn't pull into any rest stops. I think I better stay out of rest stops too since I have ~67# in my tires.

Re: And so the trek to Hybridfest begins...

I've done US60 all the way into Richmond. It's a very nice drive, but only 2 lanes most of the way. In fact, I'll cut up VA24 from US460 to US60 on my way home from Roanoke. It's a beautiful drive.

Anyway, glad you made it home safely.

Thanks! I considered 60 all the way in. That with the 24-to-460 cutover is the route I routinely used for my Lynchburg/Roanoke and beyond trips when I lived in the West End. But two factors affected my decision this time: 1) I now live south of 360, and 2) 4 lanes on 360 & 460, allowing me to bleed off speed on the uphills without disrupting traffic.

And Larry, thanks to you also for the good thoughts.
