Beer will at least double in price, because so much grain will be used for ethanol production, so that GM can still peddle SUV's.

Re: IEA Sees Oil Crunch Looming
I'm a homebrewer, and I've been thinking lately about the possibility of using passive solar to make beer. In 20 years I may have to grow my own grain and hops, but I figure there will be a lot of people needing to get loaded, so I'll be popular. :-)
Xcel, I've already been getting my money out of the USD, cuz the Mogambo Guru is right - "We're Freaking Doomed!"

Re: IEA Sees Oil Crunch Looming
There will probably be a good deal less internet infrastructure,
too, as organizations decide they can't spare the energy to
keep parts of it running. Like, say, co-lo server farms. That's
the big problem I had with that "future history" blog someone
pointed at a while back -- there was this underlying assumption
that people would be able to reach an internet, let alone have
time to post stuff, when society was breaking down due to
fuel cutoff. Ain't gonna happen that way; nonproducers such
as people who spend their lives dealing with computers [ahem]
will be among the first up against the wall. But the lawyers
and marketroids will go first.

Lets also hope the overpaid celebrities and athletes will also be among the first to go up against the wall. For when the sh*t does hit the fan they will be so totally clueless. One can just picture them crying on TV that the price of caviar, etc. has gone up too much and the government should subsidize those necessities of life.

Long before oil runs out it will go way up in price. That will help our cause in using less of it, and if we do it right, we can get out of the geopolitical morass of thinking of the Persian Gulf area as vital to our national interests.

I've got all the equipment to brew as well (OK, I still need some stuff to do all-grain) and I have grown hops in the past. Guess I need to research and see how much land I'll need to grow the grain.

Had one yesterday come down the on-ramp behind me and then just floor it and go roaring around me and off down the highway out of view in about ten seconds. That there had to have used enough gas to get me all the way to work...

Re: IEA Sees Oil Crunch Looming
Hi Dave:
___Just wait until we are beyond the simple price spikes and shortages actually arrive. I hope this never plays out but it is more then likely that scenario will eventually appear given the glacial pace at which our current transportation mix is getting turned over … Picture an H2, Excursion or Sequoia at the pump ahead of 4 Civic’s, 2 Corolla’s, 2 Focus’, a Prius’, an HCH-II and an FEH and gasoline pumps themselves are being fuel starved all over a given geographical area. That individual had better be wearing body armor because he and his vehicle will soon be so filled with holes it won’t matter what he or she thinks the fuel sucking pig does for his or her manhood. That sounds like the beginning of a horror film but American’s with their micro-tempers are known to get really pissy under those types of conditions.
___Good Luck
___Wayne

Around here, it's usually some Jethro Bodine type roaring by in his 4X4. I'm sure that makes the Mullahs smile.

I wonder if that phrase will have to be updated in the next 40 years, or our grandchildren will start looking at us funny.
