Honda tweaks the Fit’s and Civic’s fuel efficiency.

Honda is confident it can achieve the extra gas saving for the 2008 Fit within months.

In Canada, the Honda Fit was just shy of the FE needed to qualify for a $1,000 Rebate. With this as an incentive, Honda redoubled its efforts and should have a more fuel efficient Honda Fit ready for the 2008 Model Year. It is about time!

Honda Canada is tinkering with two cars to improve fuel efficiency so they can qualify for $1,000 rebates under the federal government's controversial auto rebate program, a senior company official revealed yesterday.

Honda research and development staff in Japan are working to increase fuel efficiency on the Fit subcompact and Civic compact for the 2008 model year, executive vice-president Jim Miller said.

"We're working to see what we can do to get vehicles within the zone and not sacrifice any of the safety or the attributes of the car," Miller said at an auto industry conference on the environment. "We can't commit, (on timing) but we're desperately working on it" … [Read More]

I came very close to buying one last year. If I could have gotten a little off the sticker price I probably would have. My one complaint is the small fuel tank. Even with the good gas mileage you'd have to visit the pump more often than with most cars.
