Toyota October 2012 Sales up 15.8%

Camry retains monthly car sales lead over the fast charging Accord.

http://www.cleanmpg.com/photos/data/501/2012_Toyota_Camry_Hybrid.jpg
Wayne Gerdes - CleanMPG - Nov. 2, 2012

2012 Toyota Camry (Camry Hybrid shown) – Pricing from $22,055 with a 25/35 mpgUS city/highway rating for the non-hybrid and Camry Hybrid which starts at $25,990 and provides its owner with a 43/39 mpgUS city/highway rating.

The 2012 Toyota Camry was revealed to us in Washington State with a preview of good things to come.

From the 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid preview:

"Just $25,900 to start (that is not a typo) while providing its owners an eye opening, best in the mid-size class 43 MPG city/39 MPG highway/41 MPG combined EPA rating. SOB that is one fuel efficient mid-sized sedan!"

"For 2012, the all-new Camry is benefiting from a larger interior volume and cargo capacity while built upon an almost identical exterior footprint as before. With the wheelbase, width and length identical, you would think there were not really any changes at all when in fact, from the inside, its feels bigger with a number of small enhancements providing more than 'meets the eye'."

"And of course the real new and that will help the all-new 2012 Camry Hybrid in the consumer marketplace is its $25,900 starting price, more than $1,150 less than the outgoing hybrid model!"

Toyota October Sales Results

Toyota reported October 2012 sales results of 155,242 units, an increase of 15.8 percent compared to the same period last year.

Toyota itself posted October total sales of 135,392 units, an increase of 16.8 percent from October 2011. The Lexus Division reported total sales of 19,850 units, up 9.7 percent.

Like other auto manufacturers, Toyota announced a $1 million donation to the American Red Cross and other nonprofit organizations to support relief efforts and is taking steps to assist owners affected by hurricane Sandy. Beginning today, Toyota Financial Services (TFS) and Lexus Financial Services will launch a “Customer Outreach” campaign to lease and retail customers who may need to take advantage of payment relief options, including extensions and lease deferred payments, redirecting billing statements, and arranging phone or on-line payments.

In addition, the company will announce a 90-day Deferred First Payment Program designed to assist consumers in the most impacted states with their transportation needs as they work through the recovery process.

Toyota passenger cars recorded combined monthly sales of 77,520 units, up 24.0 percent from October 2011. Car sales were led by Camry and Camry Hybrid with combined sales of 29,926 units. Corolla recorded October sales of 20,949. The Prius family of vehicles posted October sales of 16,774 units.

Scion posted October sales of 5,887 units, up 49 percent over October 2011 largely due to strong sales of the recently introduced FR-S sports car, which posted sales of 1,107 units.

Top 10 sales rank notes: No surprise that the top 5 remained the same as last month. Altima, Civic, CR-V and Escape pushed the Cruze out of the top 10. Civic rejoined the top 10 in October and wound up at #8 on the list. Civic and CR-V pushed the Escape back to #10. Corolla moved to #7 from the #9 spot last month.

The C-Segment ranks saw the aging Corolla once again retake the sales lead while the Cruze fell to 3rd behind the Civic. The brand new Sentra fell one spot and from my understanding it was more of a supply issue with the new model. It is a better car than many above it.

Re: Toyota October 2012 Sales up 15.8%

I have seen several new Prius C cars in my neighborhood. They seem to have a higher "cool" factor than the regular Prius. I am surprised it wasn't released as a Scion.

Re: Toyota October 2012 Sales up 15.8%

Hi Indigo:

The interior falls far short of the B and C-segment standard and it only needed a few more $'s to make it competitive

Re: Toyota October 2012 Sales up 15.8%

Hi All:

In Australia, Toyota just missed a hat trick by taking 1st, 2nd and 4th place for the October 2012 new-vehicle sales race last month.

The Australian HiLux is once again the country's best-selling vehicle for the sixth time this year, followed closely in second place by the locally built Camry.

Corolla continues to hold onto fourth place even with the new-generation hatch launched just days ago as Toyota moved closer to a 10th consecutive year of overall market leadership.

October sales for HiLux, Camry and Corolla totaled 9,759 - enough for these three vehicles to beat the entire sales for every other brand except Holden.

The popularity of these three vehicles as well as Toyota's SUVs lifted Toyota to a market-dominating 18,584 sales for the month - 7.8 percent higher than for the October of 2011.

So far this year, Toyota sales have risen 19.6 percent to a total of 177,695 new vehicles sales, putting the company more than 82,000 ahead of its nearest rival.
