Hyundai’s Veloster Spruced up Big Time for SEMA

It’s called “Velocity” and with double the performance of the standard turbo available, it would indeed be one fast Veloster…

Wayne Gerdes - CleanMPG - Oct. 20, 2012

The Veloster “Velocity” concept preview.

In preps for SEMA in just two weeks, we have only scratched the surface as to what will begin to show up over the next few days. Directly out of Hyundai PR team, their design and technical center has created the “Velocity” concept from the company’s Veloster sport coupe. The Velocity concept will be front and center under the Hyundai banner at the 2012 SEMA show.

The Velocity is Veloster hell bent on not showing off an aggressive stance but being an aggressor in no uncertain terms.

To begin, the Velocity’s exterior was completely “tricked” out with 19 x 9.0 inch, HRE lightweight charcoal racing wheels, lower body kit with generous front and rear brake cooling ducts, lift-reducing rear diffuser, oversized rear wing, and a #1 racecar design graphic. While racetrack-oriented, the Velocity concept retains the original Veloster profile.

On the propulsion side and as described in the vid, the direct-injected 1.6L turbo received a massive overhaul by the likes of Cosworth. Some of the changes needed to produce that 400 HP and 350 lb-ft. of torque include all-new performance pistons, rods, turbocharger, intercooler, intake manifold, intake-charging design, fuel system and an all new engine management system.

In an attempt to match the “over the top” performance treatment, the Velocity suspension and braking modifications needed to handle the newfound under hood performance include Brembo 4-piston calipers and two-piece rotors, Bilstein springs with monotube dampers, and Kumho Ecsta SPT 275/35R19 high performance summer tires.

Other Velocity performance enhancements include:

Powertrain

CPR Fabrication: Custom Exhaust system

Interior

Sparco: A1 WTX 5H Helmets, gloves, shoes, and seat belts.
Race-keeper: Race-Keeper Video GPS data Acquisition System
Katzkin custom suede leather interior: Raven and scarlet themed suede with red stitching
CPR Integrated Roll Bar

Exterior

Velocity HATCI Design Body Kit with front and rear braking airflow ducts
Lift-reducing rear diffuser
Integrated front splitter
Aero side skirt lip
Oversized rear wing spoiler

Brakes

Brembo: 350x28mm two-piece Rotors and 4-Piston Calipers

2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo “Velocity” Concept

While it may or may not ever touch the track, with double the HP of the original form which it is derived, even those massively oversized 19’s are not going to slow this puppy down… If only Hyundai would bring a 13 Sonata Hybrid with the enhanced power train along with some slick exterior treatments to reduce its Aero profile even further…

Now that would be a setup even I could sink my teeth into

Re: Hyundai’s Veloster Spruced up Big Time for SEMA

Hi All:

Hyundai states there will be a total of 8 “hopped up” Hyundai’s on the show floor at SEMA starting in two days. Here is another…

2013 Hyundai Elantra GT for SEMA

Hyundai teamed up with California-based tuner, Bisimoto Engineering, to develop a one-of-a kind SEMA show car.

In the Elantra GT’s first concept appearance at SEMA, Bisimoto gave the car a complete re-working with an emphasis on performance.

Starting with forged Arias pistons, Bisimoto con-rods and Turbonetics turbocharger, AEM water-methanol injection and Bisimoto high-pressure injectors, the Bisimoto Elantra GT is one of the highest specific-output Hyundai’s ever created with 600+ horsepower on tap from the base 1.8L I4 powerplant. This is not your father’s base Elantra1.8L motor anymore however

This concept will be unveiled at the 2012 SEMA Show under the Hyundai banner.

Besides the engine upgrades, the Bisimoto Elantra GT includes an extensive list of interior and exterior mods including an ARK custom body kit, a JFN full roll cage, Bisimoto racing seats and harnesses, and custom interior.

The list of add-ons includes the following.
