Average pump price hits record $3.07 a gallon.
Gas prices up about 20 cents in two weeks, nationwide survey shows.
AP - May 7, 2007
Would you like to own and fill a Hummer now?
CAMARILLO, Calif. - Gasoline prices have surged to a record nationwide average of $3.07 per gallon, nearly 20 cents higher than two weeks earlier, oil industry analyst Trilby Lundberg said Sunday.
The previous record was $3.03 per gallon on Aug. 11, 2006.
But despite inventory fears that have sent prices higher, there are signs that the rising prices at the pump may be peaking.
Just two weeks ago, the U.S. average for a gallon of regular gas was $2.87, but the Lundberg Survey of 7,000 stations nationwide on Friday showed an increase of about 19.5 cents to $3.07. That’s up 88.4 cents since Jan. 19, Lundberg said.
The nationwide average for midgrade gasoline was $3.18 and premium was $3.28.
The nation’s lowest average pump price was $2.80 per gallon in Charleston, S.C., while the highest was $3.49 in San Francisco.
The recent increases are due mostly to refinery problems, Lundberg said, noting there have been at least a dozen additional partial shutdowns in the U.S. and internationally that cut refining capacity.
One of the nation’s largest refineries, a BP PLC plant in Indiana that processes more than 400,000 barrels of oil per day, will not be operating at full capacity for several months due to unexpected repairs … [Read More]

How stupid would it be, standing there pumping $$$'s into a Hummer?
I'd be embarrassing.

Here in Madison, gas is up over 60% since January.
$2.00 gas in January
$3.20 gas in May

Re: Average pump price hits record $3.07 a gallon.
As the middle class is shrinking, I predict some will respond to gas prices, while those with deeper pockets will continue to pretend nothing is happening....

was it here that someone told this joke?
a guy is at the gas station, filling his hummer with the engine running.
after several hours, the attendant came out and suggested he turn it off.

Re: Average pump price hits record $3.07 a gallon.
we just hit 3.09 in central minnesota today, probably because this weekend is the fishing opener and there will be a lot of traffic going north.

Re: Average pump price hits record $3.07 a gallon.
Hit $3.00 a gallon today in Tulsa.
Folks just dont get it at all. Maybe here in a few weeks they will think about it. My boss is filling up his half ton chevy truck daily now. Granted the Civic isnt as nice or as comphy as some of there cars. But I can afford to fill it up well into the $10.00 per gallon range.
If my wife hadnt busted up her Accord. And odds were in her favor of not busting up and new HCHII. I would sell the Accord or trade it this weekend for a HCHII. But seeing a new car ,, or even a used car purchase for her anymore is akin to wiping ones rear with money and flushing it. We will have to to suffer the Accords mpg.....

Re: Average pump price hits record $3.07 a gallon.
I believe this is Tony's idea - save old articles that bash hybrids.
I'm tempted to expand that to stuff like articles that diss better fuel economy in general.
I get the perception that people are very slowly taking fuel economy seriously, but it's going to take years to see the turnaround.
In 5-10 years, I'd like to repost Dust to Dust, and see the reaction then when gas sells for $6 a gallon and lots of old Prius' are still on the road.
