Toyota September 2012 Sales Up 41.5%
Camry takes the entire midsize class to the woodshed while the company just misses toppling Ford for the #2 spot by just 3,066 vehicles.
Wayne Gerdes - CleanMPG - Oct. 2, 2012
2012 Toyota Camry (Hybrid shown) – $22,055 to start while featuring a 25/35 mpgUS city/highway rating.
Late last year Toyota introduced the all-new, seventh-generation Camry, with a more aggressive design including more interior volume, improved driving dynamics and an even quieter ride than the previous generation. In addition, they added class leading safety features including 10-airbags to start.
In hybrid form, prices begin at $25,990 (LE) and make it a 7 second car with a 43/39 mpgUS city/highway rating.
The all-new Camry Hybrid includes a revised version of the brand’s Hybrid Synergy Drive powertrain, including a new atkinsonized 2.5L.
The Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) system on the intake enhances torque while an electric water pump, a roller-rocker type valvetrain and a variable-output oil pump help reduce friction, boosting economy.
A new water-cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system helps to ensure the lowest possible emissions at all vehicle speeds and helps increase fuel efficiency. By cooling and controlling exhaust gas injected into each cylinder, the system eliminates the need to richen the air-fuel mixture to control cylinder temperatures.
The 2012 Camry Hybrid also meets AT-PZEV (Advanced Technology Partial-credit Zero Emissions Vehicle) standards.
