Nissan September 2012 Sales Down 1.1%
Aging Versa and Titan were the two standouts to the downside while the all-new 2013 Altima continues its sales winning ways.
Wayne Gerdes - CleanMPG - Oct. 2, 2012
2013 Nissan Altima - $21,500 to start and a 27/38 mpgUS city/highway rating makes for a mid-size standout without the expense of hybridization or a diesel drivetrain. It provides a large car ride at an affordable mid-size price with the fuel economy of a compact. This midsize will be tough to beat.
The all-new 2013 Nissan Altima began reaching showrooms in June and seamlessly continued taking one of the largest market shares within the highly competitive midsize sedan segments.
When the all-new Altima sedans equipped with a 2.5L I4 and new Xtronic Continuously Variable Transmission, it provides its owners with an EPA rating of 27/38 mpgUS and for the performance aficionados, can do the 0 to 60 dance in just over 7 seconds. If that does not meet your expectations of both fuel economy and performance, your head is screwed on to tight.
In addition, it handles well, has comfortable seating for the long haul and generally does so much right for an affordable price.
On the safety side of the fence, an available Blind Spot Warning (BSW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Moving Object Detection (MOD) systems using an innovative single rear camera are notable and in the case of Nissan, affordable safety technology’s finally affordable enough to be worthy of your consideration. Other manufacturers advanced safety systems of similar designs are still to expensive…
An Advanced Drive-Assist Display with 4-inch color screen standard on every model, which is customizable, easy-to-use and integrates key information right in front of the driver and Active Understeer Control, which uses advanced electronic stability control algorithms to improve cornering and provide a more confident driving experience.
And then there is the Easy-Fill Tire Alert, which sounds the car horn to notify a person filling a tire with air when the tire reaches recommended tire pressure is simply a neat feature to cool to explain in words.
In addition, the headlights automatically switch on when the windshield wipers are in use, the wipers themselves park when the vehicle is turned off and the wipers were on and in mid-cycle.
Just totally cool safety hardware that can be had for an affordable price.

Re: Nissan September 2012 Sales Down 1.1%
2013 Altima delivers much less FE than the EPA claims, I should have gotten the VW Passat for my wife's new ride

Re: Nissan September 2012 Sales Down 1.1%
Hi MPGranger:
If you are talking about the $26,200 to start Passat TDI, it is a very good choice. If you are talking about the 2.5 or 3.6L in that same Passat, you are far better off with the Altima.
Regarding capability, the 2013 Nissan Altima is currently the highest fuel economy rated “ and capable” non-hybrid non-diesel midsize with an automatic available in the US. I cannot achieve the result shown below in any other mid-size without hybridization, diesel or with a stick.
2013 Nissan Altima

$21,500 USD base model with the CVT.
If you would have chosen anything else within the segment, your wife would more than likely receiving worse. Unless of course it were a TCH, HSH, KOH or Passat TDI of course.
