BMW September 2012 Sales Up 3.5%
The brands bread and butter 3 and 5-Series experienced a significant fall-off.
Wayne Gerdes - CleanMPG - Oct. 2, 2012
2013 Mini Countryman - $22,700 to start (up $250 from 2012) and a 27/35 mpgUS city/highway rating. Production will begin in November of this year.
The MINI Countryman was the fourth model in the MINI family that is longer and taller, and according to MINI, is a genuine crossover vehicle. We’ll debate that but... The MINI Countryman offers the unique go-kart like handling while offering extra space and utility not found in the standard MINI offerings to date.
The MINI Countryman is the first vehicle in the lineup to offer four doors and optional AWD.
In the US, the Countryman is available in three versions – Cooper Countryman, Cooper S Countryman and Cooper S Countryman with ALL4.
The MINI Countryman measures 161.3 inches in length, with a wheelbase of 102.2 inches (up from 145.6 and 97.1 inches, respectively, for the MINI Hardtop), and features an interior that offers a new dimension of space and function. From first sight, the design of the MINI Countryman provides a feeling of independence, performance, robustness and versatility, all in a distinct MINI package. The clear structure of the front end gives the MINI Countryman a mature look of class and style, while managing to retain the charm and individual personality that a MINI promises.
Drivetrain
An upgraded 1.6L I4 is more efficient, cleaner and powerful than anything placed in a US MINI to date. The hyper efficient European turbo diesel variants that will easily double the US gasoline variants notwithstanding.
The MINI Cooper Countryman when equipped with the 121 HP 1.6L accelerates to 60 mph in 9.8 seconds thanks to direct injection and a twin-scroll turbocharger and Valvetronic, making the engine the most efficient in its displacement class. The MINI Cooper S Countryman equipped with a pumped up 181 HP variant of the same 1.6L accelerates the Countryman to 60 mph in 7.0 seconds.

BMW September Global Sales Highlights and Totals
| Brand | Sept. 2012 Sales | +/- % from Sept. 2011 Sales | 2012 CYTD | +/- % 2011 CYTD | |
BMW | 146,843 | +14.3% | 1,109,962 | +8.6%
MINI | 30,562 | +0.6% | 223,214 | +7.2%
| | | | | |
BMW Motorrad | 9,215 | +7.0% | 85,944 | -1.1%
| | | | | |
Global Sales | 177,716 | +11.6% | 1,335,502 | +8.3% |
All told, BMW’s US sales for the year make up just 17.6% of the company’s total global sales. Sales here lag China for the CYTD. That is a lot lower % than I would have thought.
