An attempt to break the UK land-speed record for EV's will be made in an airfield in York, England later today. It will be driven by Nick Ponting, 21, from Gloucester.
The car's builder, Dale Vince assembled a small team of engineers who had previously worked with Formula One vehicles – but they’d never worked on an EV. They purchased a second-hand Lotus Exige from Ebay and completely replaced the existing mechanics.
The result was the undeniably impressive Nemesis, which can go from 0-100 mph in under 9 seconds.
In testing last year the car hit speeds near to the current record of 137mph, but aerodynamic issues forced a re-think, as the front end of the vehicle started to lift. Having made changes to aid with stability, the team is looking to smash the existing record.

Although nowhere near as fast as the US record of 314.958 mph by the
Buckeye Bullet, this is a road legal car so in my view pretty impressive.
