GM discounts electric Chevrolet Volt up to $10,000
They show that Americans, who have been slow to embrace electric cars, are willing to buy them if prices are low enough.
Chris Woodyard - USATODAY - September 23, 2012
Looks like someone has been reading my snarky remarks on the pricing of this car. --Ed.
General Motors is offering big discounts to boost sales of the Chevrolet Volt, a plug-in extended-range electric car that struggled to attract buyers until its price began dropping early this year.
Discounts run as high as $10,000 per Volt, according to figures from TrueCar.com, an auto pricing website. They include low-interest financing and subsidized leases. Leases have run as cheap as $250 a month
Sales of the $39,995 car have quadrupled this year, and set a monthly record in August. They show that Americans, who have been slow to embrace electric cars, are willing to buy them if prices are low enough. ... [Read More]

Re: GM discounts electric Chevrolet Volt up to $10,000
Hi Al:
At $32K or less, now it is a great value. Before GM was taking the TC and placing it in their pockets!
How they will deal with upcoming MSRPs and residuals is an entirely different question?

Re: GM discounts electric Chevrolet Volt up to $10,000
I'm confused (nothing new), did they drop the price $10k and we still can get the tax rebate? What would that bring the price down to?

Re: GM discounts electric Chevrolet Volt up to $10,000
The Volt, IMHO, is a perfectly acceptable $29,999 car. It isn't worth $41k and never was. Discounting the car is a very good move for GM.

Re: GM discounts electric Chevrolet Volt up to $10,000
Sure- you still get the big tax credit.
Now there is ABSOLUTELY no reason to buy a Leaf-not with these discounts.
Wayne- your guess is $32000 is still a bit more than the actual component +assembly cost of the Volt-right? It is what GM should have priced them at before getting stupidly greedy.
When I win the Megamillions-I'll buy one- maybe 2

Re: GM discounts electric Chevrolet Volt up to $10,000
I need to check this out.
Edit: agent is for it too.
Trade in regal and xB. i could use the volt some, and it would be her main car. Only bummer would be any of my driving when she works, would be in the dmax truck or van. Overall I think it would be great. Her gas would drop to almost nothing. I would burn a little more tho.
Any thoughts? May do some shopping this week.

I think they're talking more about the leases. But some of the volume dealers have been offering $5k off MSRP on a sale. (One of the best known ones just says call for a quote). Whenever you see an article refering to dealers who haven't sold a single Volt, they're the ones who are still trying to sell at prices only an uninformed mug would touch when you can buy from a big dealer and have it shipped for thousands less.
It should also be pointed about that the really crazy Volt lease deals have disappeared as the 2012s inventory has been used up. The 2013 Volt has been improved: a modified battery pack giving 3 miles more rated range with a slightly higher efficiency rating; hold mode to put the car into CS mode to defer use of the charged capacity.

Re: GM discounts electric Chevrolet Volt up to $10,000
If I was looking for a new vehicle, at $30k pre tax credit, this would be essentially a no brainer. I would definitely miss having the hatch versatility, but I would use zero gas on my daily commutes, and only on trips outside of that and local errands. I could probably get it down to 100 gallons a year of gas purchased out of pocket (most of my longer trips involve others in the vehicle that cover fuel expense).
