Honda pledges to double global sales in five years
Ito said model development will get quicker as Honda's engineers in all regions take part in the effort from the start
Chris Woodyard - USATODAY - September 23, 2012
Honda is aiming to double down. It plans to produce twice as many vehicles as it does today.
That will take it to more than 6 million vehicles over the next five years as the Japanese automaker gears up for ambitious growth after bouncing back from last year's disasters.
"We have now reached the stage of going on the offensive," Honda President Takanobu Ito told reporters Friday, as he announced his worldwide target for the fiscal year ending March 2017. The automaker sold 3.1 million vehicles for the fiscal year through March 2012.
He said emerging markets would drive growth, including India and China, as Honda plans to strengthen its lineup of cheaper models tailored for such regions.... [Read More]

Re: Honda pledges to double global sales in five years
Rather than going on the offensive, this sounds more like Honda giving up on trying to maintain their high profit margins in a more competitive age. I hope so, because I'd rather see more of their great engineering than less.

Re: Honda pledges to double global sales in five years
So they're going to do it by targeting the low end of the market? I didn't see anything in the article about making their vehicles more competitive in North America, Japan or Europe.

I suppose they have to double the number if they are chasing the low end just to maintain current profits. I'm sure they realize that the can't grow in developed markets and are likely only to lose based on the competition.

Re: Honda pledges to double global sales in five years
Looks like the euro cycle numbers on the CR-Z went from 42/47 (city/hwy) to 39/53.4.
I'm going to predict the fuelly numbers will increase from 39 to 43 or so.

Re: Honda pledges to double global sales in five years
If I'm interpreting the new CR-Z specs correctly,
Mpg: up 10% (my real world prediction, likely will show very little on the epa -- I'm thinking the extra ICE power will knock the epa city and combined numbers, but real world will see better)
Power: up at least 10% and possibly more (not sure how the S+ button will work into the equation).
That's noticeable improvement.

Re: Honda pledges to double global sales in five years
Before I'll buy, I'm waiting for them to come out with a new car with a good tall geared manual transmission turning 2K or less at 60mph. The last car they sold equipped with such was the 1st gen 5MT Insight.

Re: Honda pledges to double global sales in five years
You wouldn't think that's a hard thing to ask. But apparently for Honda it is.
